Silence shrouds Hells Angels murders in mystery Silence shrouds Hells Angels murders in mystery: "Stanton, 41, was kicked out of the East End chapter of the Hells Angels just three months before he was gunned down outside his Vancouver home. Ozolins, also 41 when he died, had voluntarily resigned from the Haney chapter he once headed. They are among seven B.C. men linked to the biker gang who have been slain or disappeared over the past 17 years. No charges have been laid in any of the cases. Police and a biker expert say homicides involving the Hells Angels -- or any organized crime group -- are particularly tough to solve. 'Any sort of organized-crime homicide is inherently difficult to investigate for a variety of reasons,' Cpl. Dale Carr, of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, said Friday. The first obstacle is the reluctance of witnesses to cooperate with police, he said."
Phoenix 2002 slaying tied to biker gang remains unsolved Phoenix 2002 slaying tied to biker gang remains unsolved: "Joshua Harber's family said he joined a motorcycle gang six months before he was shot and killed outside a north Phoenix bar in 2002. Eight years later, the 25-year-old's relatives continue to struggle to understand a motive in the murder, which remains unsolved as detectives hope for anonymous tips to identify a suspect. His mother, Cindy Harber, said the anniversary of her son's slaying came and went on June 9 with little attention. A $5,000 reward is available for information leading to an arrest or indictment in the murder. But the case remains cold. Harber's death received a notation in the 2006 book 'Angels of Death: Inside the Biker Gangs' Crime Empire.' Some information on the slaying suggested that the California native wanted out of the gang, and was killed for trying to leave, according to investigators. Other details suggested he was killed by a rival gang member. However, Phoenix police detectives said the facts could remain unclear unless a witness comes forward."
Former Hells Angel gets deal in bar homicide - Winnipeg Free Press Former Hells Angel gets deal in bar homicide - Winnipeg Free Press: "former Manitoba Hells Angels member struck a deal with justice officials Wednesday that saw him admit to killing a man inside a Winnipeg bar in exchange for his immediate freedom. Billy Bowden, 34, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to two years of time already served, which was given double-time credit of four years. He was expected to be returned to the community by the end of the day. Bowden admitted to playing a role in the November 2007 stabbing death of 24-year-old Jeff Engen inside the Empire Cabaret. A co-accused, Matt Wegier, remains before the courts and is set to go on trial in March 2011. Prosecutor Daniel Chaput told Queen’s Bench Justice Rick Saull there were several problems with the Crown’s case against Bowden that prompted the plea bargain for a much lighter sentence than usual. Although there were more than 50 potential witnesses to the killing, Chaput said 'surprisingly very few had much to say about what happened.' As well, there are no witnesses putting the knife in Bowden’s hand and the Crown can only prove he participated in the group attack. 'It was the unknowns the Crown struggled with. We couldn’t say who stabbed the victim. We couldn’t say Mr. Bowden knew a knife was present or that the victim was being stabbed,' said Chaput."
